Stock and value trends: compare like-for-like observations

A worked method for reading price changes without invented market percentages.

Stock and trade reference value answer different questions

Stock asks whether a dealer currently offers an item. A trading reference asks how one publisher estimates that item for player-to-player comparison. The dealer’s retail cost and an unofficial reference-point total are not the same unit.

The former article supplied a ranked list of recent percentage gains and losses without preserving the underlying observations. Those claims have been removed. Our value table now names one publisher snapshot and its date; a single snapshot cannot prove a trend.

Build a comparable pair

Use the same publisher, exact item specification and unit at two recorded times. For Dragon, East and West must remain separate; physical and permanent entries also cannot be swapped. Save the source URL and date with each observation. A change in provider methodology can look like a price move even when the underlying market has not been measured.

A hypothetical reference changing from 100 million to 120 million increases by (120 − 100) ÷ 100 × 100 = 20%. These are explanatory numbers, not an observed change in a named fruit. If the earlier value is missing, report the change as unavailable instead of inventing a baseline.

What a percentage cannot tell you

An advertised reference increase does not prove that completed trades occurred at that price, that your item will sell quickly or that another rise will follow. If you are deciding whether to accept an offer, inspect the game trade and compare several current references yourself.

Use the calculator walkthrough for arithmetic on a single snapshot and the stock guide for the different task of checking a dealer.
